If you have a ventilation fan in your home, you might have noticed lately that it’s been making more noise than usual. This is likely because the fan has become clogged with dust and other debris, which is causing it to work harder to circulate air.
Ventilation fan that is problematic about dirt. However, since it is a place that I do not usually clean, even if I try to clean it, it takes time to ask. “How do I remove it?” So this time, I will introduce how to remove the ventilation fan safely. It’s not that difficult, so you’ll be ready to clean it.
Remove the ventilation fan: Depends on the types
There are ventilation fans in various places in the house, such as the kitchen, bath, and toilet. Each shape looks different, but it can be roughly divided into “propeller type” and “sirocco fan type.”
Propeller type
The propeller type is a type with blades like a fan. It’s simple to make, so it’s relatively easy to remove.
Sirocco fan type
The sirocco fan type uses a tubular propeller. Since it is installed inside the ventilation fan, it is a little more difficult to remove than the propeller type.
How to remove the ventilation fan differs depending on whether it is a propeller type or a sirocco fan type . It’s in the back of the filter, so let’s check which type it is while removing it.
This time, I will introduce in order from the sirocco fan type removal method that is often used in recent homes.
What tools do you need?
- Rubber gloves
- Screwdriver or wrench
The ventilation fan is very slippery due to the accumulation of dust and oil stains. Get rubber gloves and proceed safely. The ventilation fan is a propeller type and a sirocco fan type, and the removal method is different, but the common point is that it stays at one center of rotation. I will introduce the procedure how for removing each type.
Sirocco Fan
The sirocco fan type is often found in kitchen hoods, toilets, and bathrooms. The new model does not require special tools, but the old one can be difficult to remove. Let’s proceed slowly without overdoing it.
1. Remove the filter and cover
First, remove the filters that cover the fan so that you can see the fan. It depends on the model, but I removed the screw fixed in this model with a screwdriver. In the case of a toilet or bath ventilation fan, you can remove the cover by pulling it toward you. Please use a screwdriver if necessary.
2. Remove the screw in the center of the fan
After removing the parts around the fan, remove the fan as well. First, remove the cover around the fan with a screwdriver, and then remove the fan. Turn it counterclockwise to loosen the fan and allow it to be removed.
3. Pull out the fan
The kitchen fan slips a lot of oil, so be careful when removing it. Put on rubber gloves and take them down carefully. It’s dirty and slippery, so be careful and pull it out to complete. Make a place to manage the removed parts, so you do not lose them.
How to clean the sirocco fan?
We recommend cleaning with detergent if you want to remove the oil stains on the sirocco fan.
Even It can easily wash away tough oil stains by giving time to your allies and allowing the detergent to penetrate well. The holidays are over while I’m rubbing.
How to remove it depends on the ventilation fan, so read the instruction manual in advance to check it.
1. Preparation
Ventilation fans that have not been cleaned for a long time may have oil stains dripping during disassembly. Cover it with a plastic bag to prevent it from spreading to other places. After that, keep the tools at hand and wear rubber gloves to smooth cleaning.
2. Open the cover and remove the sirocco fan
The sirocco fan is in the back after removing the surface cover, such as the filter. Steam-containing oil that rises during cooking is discharged to the outside through this fan. At first glance, the outside is not very dirty, but when you look into it, the inside of Provera, through which oil vapors pass, is sticky. After removing the screws on the cover that secures the fan, it’s time to remove the fan. If you turn the pin in the middle, the screw will loosen, and you will be able to remove the tubular prober. It is slippery with oil, so be careful not to drop it when removing it.
3. Spray detergent
Move the removed filter and sirocco fan to the sink. I will spray the detergent evenly there. The trick is to use it generously and generously. Please put it in a container that can get dirty and pour hot water on it. I used an external device this time, but if possible, I recommend using a large one that will immerse the entire fan.
4. Clean the main body
Clean the body lightly while leaving the sirocco fan on. Wipe the inside of the duct where the fan was attached with a cloth soaked in detergent. It’s complicated, so you can’t drop it altogether. This time, I just wiped it lightly with a cloth soaked in detergent. Wipe the kitchen hood with detergent in the same way. Detergent for oil stains can remove stains and stains.
5. Flush the fan detergent and dirt
Please take out the fan that you left behind and rinse it lightly. Rub it with a sponge or brush and rinse it with water to check for the dirt removal. If you use a brush etc., in a small place, you can finish it beautifully in every corner.
6. Rinse
Finally, rinse and check for the dirt removal. If any dirt remains, lightly clean it with detergent again to finish it.
7. Dry and install
Wipe off the water with a cloth or let it air dry. The dirt has been removed cleanly, and it looks like new. Finally, install it in the reverse order of removing it, and you’re done.
Propeller Type Fan
The rough way to remove the propeller type is “unplug the power-remove the outer cover-remove the propeller.” The work in the first half is the same as for sirocco fans.
1. Remove power
Unplug it to prevent it from moving during work. Check the instruction manual for how to remove it.
2. Remove the cover
Remove any cover or frame around the propeller.
3. Turn the knob to remove the blade
Fix the blade with one hand and turn the center knob with the other hand to remove it. The propeller-type fan is only fixed with screws, so you can twist it lightly to remove it.
What if the propeller does not come off?
If you do not clean it for a while, the shaft may harden, and you may not be able to remove it properly. In the case of the propeller type, it will be easier to remove it if you warm the center part with a dryer for about 3 minutes after unplugging it and then turn it.
If you can’t remove it with the sirocco fan type, you don’t have to remove it. Switch to wiping as much as possible, as it may add extra force and damage the cover itself. If you keep dust away, you won’t have to clean the inside.
What should I be careful about removing the ventilation fan?
Please note the following two points when removing the ventilation fan.
1. Oil stains on hands and clothes
Ventilation fans left unattended for many years are subject to oil stains and dust, and there is a risk of slipping off when removed. Let’s remove it on the assumption that it is slippery.
2. Do not cut your hands with the tip of the blade.
The sirocco fan has a lot of thin blades and a sharp tip, so there is a risk of injury. Be sure to wear rubber gloves when removing it, so you do not cut your hands with the tip.
